Everything comes down to the boring
In a welded bearing support, the boring is the part that matters. Cut the plate wrong and no amount of good welding fixes it afterwards. So the sequence is fixed: weld first, machine the bearing seat second.
Seats are bored to H7 as standard. If your drawing calls for a split cap, the cap is bolted and doweled before the finish bore, so the two halves never lose registration.
For plummer block style supports, the base is machined flat and the bolt slot is milled after welding. That way the slot is in the right place relative to the bore, not in the place the welder happened to put it.
What we need from you
Bearing number, shaft height and the loads if you have them. From the bearing number alone we can pull the seat dimension, so a sketch with the bearing model on it is often enough to start.
Grease fittings, temperature probe bosses and grease grooves go in where the drawing calls for them. If the bearing runs hot and has a thermocouple, we drill and tap the boss before the thermocouple goes in.
Tell us the operating temperature. On hot bearing supports we use Q345 instead of Q235 because the yield strength drops less at temperature, and we will tell you if your design needs that.
Split caps and take-up arrangements
Split cap designs are used where the bearing needs to come off the shaft without pulling the shaft out. The cap is bolted down with the base, doweled, then the bore is finish-machined so the two halves share the same circle.
Take-up housings are a related design where the whole bearing seat slides on a frame for chain or belt tensioning. We build the slide frame with machined ways and the housing sits on top.
On both types the critical thing is the dowel. Without a dowel the cap shifts under load and the round bore goes oval. We drill and ream the dowel holes after the cap is torqued down.

Frequently asked questions
I have a bearing number but no drawing. Can you build the housing?
Yes. From the bearing number we get the OD, width and load capacity. We need the shaft center height and the bolt pattern if you have one, or we can use a standard pattern. A photo or sketch of where the bearing sits is enough to start.
What is H7 and why does it matter?
H7 is an ISO tolerance class for a bore that fits a bearing with a light interference. It means the bore is held to within a few hundredths of a millimeter on nominal. Too loose and the bearing spins in the housing. Too tight and it distorts when pressed in. H7 is the standard for ball and roller bearing seats.
Can you build a split cap housing?
Yes. The cap is bolted to the base, doweled, then both halves are bored together so the bore is a true circle. Without the dowel the cap shifts under load and the bore goes oval. The dowel is reamed after the cap is torqued down.
Do you machine the housing or supply it welded only?
We supply it finished. The bore, base, bolt holes and grease features all come machined. You get a part ready to bolt the bearing into, not a welded blank that someone else has to finish.
What about high-temperature bearings?
Tell us the operating temperature. Above 200 degrees we switch to Q345 for better yield retention at temperature, and we will advise on clearance. High-temp bearings often need more clearance than standard because the inner race grows faster than the outer.
Working with us
We are a 7,000 square meter fabrication shop in Qingdao with 20 years of export experience, mostly to Australia. Welding runs under ISO 3834 with welders qualified to AWS D1.1, and quality is documented to ISO 9001 from material certificate to final dimensional report. Drawings and specifications stay confidential. A sketch and a bearing number is enough to get a price.
