Mass is a feature here
A compressor base wants to be heavy. The mass absorbs the shaking forces so the floor does not have to, which is why these bases are built from heavier section than they strictly need to be for strength.
Anti-vibration mount positions are laid out to the isolator maker's spacing. The pads under each mount position are machined to the same height, because isolators compressed unevenly transmit exactly the vibration they were bought to stop.
On reciprocating compressors the shaking forces are not symmetric. The base has to resist the unbalanced inertia force, which means the base is heavier on the side where the pistons push. We add mass on that side.
Assemblies, not just frames
Most compressor bases ship as part of an assembly: the base, the isolator pads, and sometimes an enclosure support frame bolted into the same pattern.
We hold the whole assembly to one bolt coordinate system so everything meets on site without re-drilling.
The isolator pads are fitted to the base on a test fit before the base ships. The pad positions are marked and the isolators are trial-fitted so the installer does not find out on site that the holes do not line up.
Enclosure and piping supports
On packaged compressors the base often carries an enclosure frame. The enclosure posts bolt into the same base pattern as the compressor, so the base has to have both sets of bolt holes in the right place.
Pipe support brackets are welded onto the base to hold the discharge and suction piping. The brackets are positioned so the piping does not put load on the compressor flanges, which is a common cause of flange leaks.
Cooler and aftercooler supports go on the same base if the cooler is packaged with the compressor. We size the support to the cooler weight plus the water in the cooler.

Frequently asked questions
Why is the base heavier than it needs to be for strength?
On a compressor, the base mass absorbs the shaking forces so the floor does not have to. A lighter base would be strong enough to hold the compressor, but it would transmit vibration into the concrete pad. The extra mass is a feature, not a cost saving we skipped.
Can you include the enclosure frame in the assembly?
Yes. The enclosure posts bolt into the same base pattern as the compressor. We drill both sets of holes in the base and trial-fit the isolator pads and enclosure posts before the base ships, so the installer does not find out on site that the holes do not line up.
What isolator information do you need?
The isolator model number and the spacing from the isolator maker. We lay out the mount positions to that spacing and machine the pads to equal height. If you have not chosen an isolator yet, tell us the compressor weight and running speed and we can suggest a make and model.
Do you add pipe support brackets to the base?
Yes, where the drawing calls for them. The brackets are positioned so the piping does not put load on the compressor flanges. Flange loading from unsupported piping is a common cause of leaks on compressor packages.
What about reciprocating vs screw compressors?
Reciprocating compressors have unbalanced inertia forces that are not symmetric, so the base is heavier on the side where the pistons push. Screw compressors have lower vibration but higher speed, so the base is tuned for the frequency range of the screw. Tell us the type and we adjust the design.
